Campfire Popcorn

Popcorn is the perfect snack while watching a movie; it is also the perfect snack while sitting around the campfire. Campfire popcorn is warm, buttery and salty and is a great snack to pass around the fire. If you easily get tired of buttered popcorn (I haven’t yet!) you can certainly liven it up a bit with popcorn cheese, kettle corn seasoning or sugar and spice seasoning.

The process for making campfire popcorn is easy, especially with a campfire popcorn popper made for outdoor cooking. Making popcorn at the campsite has always seemed to entertain the kids as they watch kernels become popcorn right before their eyes.

CAMPFIRE POPCORN

INGREDIENTS
2 oz of popcorn kernels
2 tablespoons canola oil
spray butter
salt to taste
Oven mitt
grocery paper bag

DIRECTIONS
Open the popcorn popper and pour in 2 tablespoons of canola oil. Then pour 2 ounces of popcorn kernels on top and shake around a bit to get everything covered. Close the lid of the popper and put it directly over the flames of the fire. Usually it is best if the fire is not roaring but has some good coals. Vigorously shake the popcorn popper to keep the kernels moving. You will start to hear the popcorn pop, just like normal popcorn when the popping noise dies down it is done. It pops very quickly and can be done within 1-2 minutes.

Take off the heat; use an oven mitt to open the lid of the popcorn popper and pour the contents in to a grocery paper bag. Spray butter on the popcorn and salt to taste. Close the bag and shake to coat. You can make multiple rounds of popcorn but as a note once the popper gets hot the cooking time can be even quicker.
