We caught up with Sarah at Adventures Unlimited to talk about the popular activities on the resort, camping at Adventures Unlimited and the best attractions in the area. Read below for insider information on a great campground near Pensacola.
Sarah’s Favorite Thing To Do In The Resort
I would take a walk on the nature trail and do the highest and longest zip line along the river. At 65 feet tall and 900ft long it is quite exhilarating!
Get To Know Adventures Unlimited
When was Adventures Unlimited founded? How did it start?
In 1976 Adventures Unlimited was incorporated to fulfill Jack and Esther’s dream of helping provide a means for the general public to enjoy the Blackwater River chain (which includes the Coldwater and Sweetwater-Juniper) and the beautiful outdoor resources of Santa Rosa County. Adventures Unlimited began with two canoes on top of a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, then expanded to thirty canoes and a 1972 GMC three quarter ton pickup (affectionately referred to as “Old Blue”). The Blackwater River was the main river of recreation although trips on Coldwater or Sweetwater-Juniper could be scheduled. The Blackwater River State Park was the main point of debarkation and phones were answered from the Sanborn’s residence at 1 Main Street in Bagdad, Florida.
What are the most popular activities at the resort?
Our most popular activities include Canoeing, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Zip Line Canopy Tour and our Challenge Course.
Where is Adventures Unlimited located? What are some other attractions in the area worth checking out?
Adventures Unlimited is located Northeast of Pensacola, FL in Milton, FL, the canoe capital of Florida. Milton is a short drive away from many cities worth driving to and exploring such as Mobile, Destin, Panama City and of course Pensacola.
Some noteworthy attractions we would suggest are the beaches on the Gulf (Navarre Beach or Pensacola Beach) and the Naval Aviation Museum. The beaches are noteworthy because of their sugar white sand, clear blue waters and warm temperatures. The Naval Aviation Museum is a FREE activity that promotes learning and many activities for all ages.
What are the different tours you offer?
We offer Cabins, Camping, Canoeing, Tubing, Kayaking, Paddleboarding, Zip Line Canopy Tour, Challenge Course, Catering, and Group Retreats. We have over 30 cabins and 25 campsites. Our river trips are primarily on Coldwater Creek on a 4 mile, 7 mile, 11 mile or 15 mile option. Our current zip line tours offered are a 7 zip line course called Taste of the Tours and a 12 zip line course called the Ultimate Double Dip. Our main types of challenge course offerings are a Low course, focused on teambuilding and communication; the High course, focused more on individual challenge and overcoming obstacles at least 40 feet in the air; there is also a combination of both of these offered. We cater for large groups staying here on our property, usually churches, schools, boy scouts and girl scouts, companies and youth sport organizations. Other activities that are specifically designed for groups are Orienteering, Scavenger Hunt, Bonfire with S’mores, Stargazing, and we have even done the low challenge course in the river on hot summer days to keep everyone cool.
What types of campsites are in the resort?
Our campsites have water and 30 amp electric hookup. All sites are on a grassy wooded area and have a picnic table and fire ring. We allow tents, RVs and popups. At this time we have 2 pet friendly campsites for RVs only.
If you could spend just 1 night at Adventures Unlimited, which campsite would you choose – and why?
Any of them! Each campsite has a great trait that may differ from site to site. One site offers perfect shade during the hottest time of the day, another is closest to the bathhouse while another has the perfect layout of the picnic table and fire ring to fit my family.
