COAST Polysteel 400 Flashlight Review

The COAST Polysteel 400 flashlight exemplifies a flashlight for the person who needs rugged gear. This flashlight was made for extreme durability, all fitting in a ridiculously lightweight casing – you’ll barely know it’s in your hand. Not only is it lightweight but it really packs a punch in terms of brightness. You might need shades.

Appearance: The COAST Flashlight has a grip textured look that just looks like it means business. The flashlight has a wide lens for the LED light and raised button on the bottom of the flashlight that operates the different light settings.

Ease Of Use: With only one mode of operation, the button, the COAST Polysteel 400 flashlight is a simple device to use. The button is raised quite a bit so it is simple to find at the bottom of the flashlight. It is also protected by a raised rim so that it can’t just turn on at inopportune times. But let’s stop talking about the button and get to the real feature – the powerful LED. And when we say powerful, we mean 300 lumens on high powerful. It blows most flashlights of similar size out of the water. Even the low setting packs a punch. The 2 hour run time on high is pretty remarkable for how much light it is pumping out. Although it drops from 300 to 64 lumens on low you will get about 34 hours of life from it.

It is a pretty straightforward beam that has a large flood (767 foot beam distance) and a focusing spot, that can be adjusted by twisting the top area of the flashlight. A warning – it is pretty tough to do. It is pretty stiff to start but once you use it a few times it starts to loosen.

Durability: Well this thing could go through hell and back and we’d say there’s more than a 50% chance it would still be intact and operable. The COAST Polysteel 400 flashlight is really unique from the inside out, as it comes with a tough, stainless steel core that’s wrapped in a grip textured nylon polymer. With an IPX8 rating it allows for the lights to withstand some of the toughest and most brutal environments and conditions, from plunges under water to drops from above. The rating also allows it to be submerged in water up to 3 meters deep for 6 hours.

Weight: To be honest we thought there was no way it is as durable as they say if it weighs this little. But we were wrong. It’s super tough and super light. Coming in at just 12 oz this flashlight, is as small as your hand and shines bright enough to light up an entire campsite.

Value: At $41.99 it is certainly not your dollar bin flashlight. But the COAST Flashlight has a lot to offer. Durability, insane light and weight all make this flashlight special and a good investment to have with when outdoors.
