GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker Review

As much as we like to get out and explore through hiking, running, biking, really any form of transportation through the outdoors, we also like to get back to camp and relax in a comfortable chair. That moment when your tired legs finally get to rest and you first make contact with a comfortable chair. You know the feeling. That initial euphoria is what we look for in a chair. With so many chairs on the market, a good one really has to stand out and offer something unique. GCI Outdoor Freestyle Rocker seemed to blend elements we love from other chair styles into a single package that, hopefully, would be comfortable. We spent some time working/relaxing with it and came to a few conclusions we have outlined below.

Functionality: If you think that a rocker has only one function, to rock back-and-forth, you’re half right with the Freestyle Rocker. It has the unique ability to feel like a traditional camp chair where you can be in a more sitting position but also have the ability to rock back and forth. Normally you have to pick one or the other but GCI was able to blend the best of both worlds and create something that is better than both. It also folds and unfolds easily with very little effort. The Freestyle Rocker also features an all important drink holder and it’s even big enough to fit the drinks we like to pour.

Comfort: The toughest part about owning this chair will be the decision to get up. Not because it is difficult but because you won’t want to. The Freestyle Rocker has a perfect seat and armrest height, seat depth, and enough “give” in the seat to make it ultra-comfortable. The rocking motion is fluid with no shifting in your seat or leg pinch. Considering it was designed to support up to 250 lbs, you could probably guess that it is size proportionally when all set up. This will give most people plenty of room and comfort in the seat.

Weight: At 11.9 pounds, this definitely is not the lightest chair on the market but look at what you are getting. A ultra-comfortable and sturdy rocker with all steel construction. So you won’t be taking it up any mountains with you, it stores flat and has an easy-carry handle which is super nice for short trips.

Durability: The Freestyle Rocker is constructed of lightweight and sturdy powder-coated steel. No bendable aluminum here. That steel frame can support 250 lbs of camper so no need to skip s’mores for dessert. The stitching has held up through our testing and hasn’t shown any signs of wear.

Value: Can you really put a price on complete comfort? The short answer is yes but for $65, GCI is making a truly comfortable rocker for a great price. The Freestyle rocker is built like a tank and durable enough to hold up to whoever is sitting on it. If you enjoy sitting around the fire, watch your kids soccer games, or spend time outdoors relaxing, you really owe it to yourself to check this chair out.
