Green Belly Meal Bar Review

Is the Green Belly Meal Bar really a meal replacement?

Chris Cage decided to create a meal replacement bar after hiking 20 miles a day on the Appalachian Trail and becoming frustrated with the lack of options for meals on-the-go. According to Chris:
“Fast food was unhealthy, fresh fruit was perishable and protein bars weren’t filling. I thought about making an entire nutritionally balanced meal for endurance athletes and individuals on the go. Not just a “bar” to fill in the hungry cracks of the day, rather an entire meal that would supply about 1/3 of an individual’s daily nutritional needs. It would be healthy, with all natural ingredients and no artificial preservatives.”

So I had a Cranberry Almond Green Belly Meal Bar at about 12:30pm and didn’t eat again until about 6:00pm…

I wanted to see how filling they are and I have to say, I wasn’t disappointed. Now, I wasn’t hiking and burning up a lot of calories but still, the six hour stretch of not being hungry impressed me. The Green Belly Meal Bar has been described as “not too sweet, not too salty, not fake tasting.” I agree with that 100% and wouldn’t hesitate to throw a few in my pack for the day. Like I said in the video, sometimes I just don’t want to fuss with cooking, and Green Belly Meal Bars are a great way to avoid that. Here are my thoughts in more detail.

Appearance – They look more appealing than a lot of trail bars I’ve come across. They’re not dry. They look moist and appealing.

Taste – The taste was great. Not too salty, not too sweet. And also – not too dense. Sometimes eating bars that have this amount of calories is like eating a hockey puck. Not these. Great texture and taste.

Ease of Use – They’re a little large, but I’ll take it as a trade off for better texture.

Value – A three pack will run you $11.49, and after shipping it was $16 for me personally. That’s about $5 for a meal when you’re out on the trail, which is pricey. The nice thing is that they really do have the right amount of carbs, fat and protein to keep you going as long as a meal would. I’d still like a three pack in my bag for those moments when I’m hungry and just doing feel like setting up the stove.
