POV: Dog Chases Cat up a Tree, But the ‘Cat’ Is a Mountain Lion

A family in Orange County, California let their dog out the other morning, and it chased a cat up a tree—except the “cat” was actually a mountain lion. Yikes. The family called for help, and authorities worked together to remove the mountain lion from the family’s tree, transport it to a safe spot, and release it back into the wild.

It’s not clear what type of dog was ferocious enough to spook the mountain lion, but we’re happy that no humans or animals were hurt in the incident.

“A big thanks to California Department of Fish and Wildlife, Mission Viejo Animal Services, OC Animal Care , and Orange County Fire Authority for their parts in bringing today’s ‘cat in a tree’ call to a happy ending in the Cleveland National Forest,” wrote the Tustin Police Department in its Facebook post sharing the story.
