Python Tries for Two Hours to Suffocate Woman in Her Pantry

We all know the risks associated with outdoor recreation. There are ticks and snakes and bears and mountain lions—and occasionally even a rabid animal. But what about your kitchen? Your pantry? Those are safe, right? Maybe not if you live in Thailand. A python trapped a 63-year-old woman in her home for two hours as it tried to suffocate her. She survived.

Inside Edition reports that the woman, Arom Arunroj, was washing dishes when she felt a pinch on her leg. It was a bite from a python, a large, non-venomous constrictor snake. Before Arunroj realized what was happening, the snake was wrapping around her torso, bringing her to the floor.

It’s likely the snake was a reticulated python, which, like other constrictor snakes, kills its prey through suffocation. AP reports this particular python was 13-16 feet long.

Wrapped up in the python’s deadly hug, Arunroj came to rest in what appeared to be a pantry. She cried for help, and eventually, about an hour and a half later, a neighbor heard her and called for help.

“I grabbed it by the head, but it wouldn’t release me,” Arunroj said. “It only tightened.”

New nightmare unlocked.

We’re so glad this woman survived relatively unharmed. But we bet she won’t rest easy while doing the dishes for quite a while.

Can you imagine this happening to you?
