When fully opened it is 6.3 inches and when slid closed is only 4.5 inches. So this thing is fitting easily in your camp box or backpack. To use it as a lantern, slide the piece up until it clicks in to place, this will diffuse the Cree LED bulb and can stand upright on its base. If you’re needing a flashlight, slide it all the way down, hold it in your hand and the light will be focused out the top.
