Orchard Lake Campground North Carolina

Camp North Carolina had the pleasure of speaking with the Manager at Orchard Lake Campground. He shared with us the campground’s activities, natural beauty, and what you should do when you visit the area. Listen to our full interview here:

Camp North Carolina: I’m talking with Jim today. He’s the Manager at Orchard Lake Campground in North Carolina. Jim, why don’t you get started with telling us about how long Orchard Lake Campground has been there and how it got started?

Jim: The campground itself has been here for about 50 years. The current owners have had it for about 18 years or so, since ’95, and I’ve been there for about 14 years.

CNC: Okay. And what types of camping do you offer there?

Jim: We offer everything from tent camping to cabins.

CNC: All right. And what are the most popular activities for the guests there?

Orchard-Lake-1

Jim: By far the zipline is our most popular. We have a zipline that’s suitable for all ages. It’s free with your camping. We also have a climbing wall and two lakes you can fish in without a license. We provide row boats, paddle boats, canoes, kayaks, swimming, and a water slide. We have a 9-hole (Unclear 00:58.8) golf. Of course the zipline and hiking trails.

CNC: Yeah, I checked out the video beforehand and I was watching the zipline footage, and it looks like an absolute blast. And they definitely show people of all ages going on the zipline.

Jim: Absolutely.

CNC: It looks like a lot of fun. What are some of your favorite attractions in and around that area outside of Orchard Lake Campground?

Jim: Outside there’s Pearson Falls, which is very close. It’s a nice about half-day trip. It’s about three miles from the campground, but you can spend half a day. It’s a short hike into the falls and it’s maintained by the garden club and it’s a very pleasant walk there. We are also very close to sliding rock up in Pisca Forest as well as DuPont Forest and Chimney Rock State Park in Chimney Rock, near Lake Lure.

CNC: It’s a lot of outdoors. A lot of hiking for people that like to get out and about in that way.

Jim: That’s correct.

CNC: Awesome. Two more questions for you, Jim. If you could spend just one hour at Orchard Lake Campground, how would you spend your time there?

Jim: Probably on the lake. We’ve got fishing and swimming and boats available.

Orchard-Lake-3

CNC: Okay, and what kind of fishing are you doing?

Jim: We’ve got bass, catfish, crappie, and even bluegill.

CNC: Very cool. Last question: if you could spend just one night at Orchard Lake Campground in North Carolina, which specific campsite would you choose and why?

Jim: 46 is everybody’s favorite. It’s just right on the lake. The smaller lake. And you can walk right out of your camper to the water.

CNC: Perfect. Thank you for that tip and, Jim, thank you for taking some time out of your day to chat with us about Orchard Lake Campground in North Carolina.

Jim: All right, thank you.
