Mike Loughran had an unexpected animal encounter when he came across an owl stuck in barbed wire. He decided to stop what he was doing and rescue the owl from its nasty barbed-wire fate, which ended up requiring an hour-long road trip with an owl strapped into his passenger seat.

“This owl was really stuck in the barbed wire,” Loughran wrote in his Instagram post sharing the video. “Luckily with some careful moving around I was able to free him! Being unable to fly and with an open wound it needed some medical attention. Even with a un-broken wing it would be very prone to infection. Took this guy about an hour away to an SPCA and it’s expected to make a full recovery!”
Loughran estimates the wounded owl had been stuck in the fence for 6-10 hours before he freed it. Thankfully someone like him noticed the animal in distress before it was too late.
