Sharks AND Alligators: Want to Swim in This Water? (Viral Video)

A group of people gathered on a dock to watch some large sharks circling in the water. And then an alligator showed up. Where is this place where sharks and alligators swim together and people can watch from relative safety? Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.

“Can’t believe we saw this in #HiltonHeadIsland #SkullCreekDockside this week!” wrote Gina Athans in a popular TikTok post with nearly 6 million views.

The video first shows a large shark, possibly a lemon shark, swimming in the water right below the dock where Athans and a group of people are standing. Then, Athans pans over and shows several more sharks circling in the water. But no one expects an alligator to pop its head out from beneath the dock and join the fray.

“Now I have to google if sharks eat alligator or alligators eat sharks,” wrote one person in the comments section.

“I used to comfort myself with the fact that alligators live in fresh water and sharks live in salt water therefore both would never be an issue . . . this has crushed that,” wrote another person.
