Angry Moose Attacks Person Walking Dogs in Colorado

This weekend, a person was walking two dogs near Winter Park, Colorado, when a female moose charged and injured the individual. The moose reportedly had a yearling and was likely acting aggressively in an attempt to protect her young. Thankfully, the victim survived, but he/she was hospitalized with “serious injuries” to the chest and arms.

A press release from Colorado Parks and Wildlife suggests the dogs were leashed but released after the attack and therefore, they were not injured. The moose knocked the unnamed individual down, kicked him/her, and then charged after the dogs. Wildlife officers were not able to locate the female moose and her yearling after the incident.

“If you encounter a moose, give it space and time to move,” the press release advises. “Do not attempt to haze the moose out of the way. Not only is it dangerous, but this is also considered harassment and is illegal. If a moose has laid-back ears, pawing the ground, licks its snout, or changes its direction to face you, you are too close and need to back away.  If a moose charges, seek shelter behind large objects like trees or boulders to create an obstacle in its path.”
