Cooking Your Catch: How to Fillet Walleye

After catching walleye, you need to be able to clean and fillet it. Some basics when it comes to filleting walleyes is to have a steel glove on your off hand to help control the fish and to prevent you from cutting your hand. Another thing to be thinking of is to have a sharp knife. Then you’re ready to fillet. You start at the fin, go straight down, and follow the ribcage. Follow along the spine all the way down to the tail. Flip it over and take the fillet off the skin. Lastly, be sure to remove any bones and it’s time to cook it up!
