‘Best (Scariest) Safety Stop Ever’: 9 Tiger Sharks Surround Divers

While SCUBA diving off the coast of the Maldives’ Fuvahmulah Island, a group paused for a safety stop to allow their bodies to decompress before surfacing. As they did, a whole bunch of sharks became very curious about them. The group’s dive instructor captured a video of the tiger sharks as they surrounded the divers.

“The best (scariest) safety stop ever!” wrote Hadrien, the SCUBA diving instructor who took the video and posted it on his Instagram page.

As Hadrien records the moment, more and more tiger sharks appear from the deep blue. He identifies them as young males and counts no fewer than nine of them. Everyone appears to keep calm, and the sharks apparently continued to circle the divers without incident until they surfaced and exited the water.

Tiger sharks are one of the more feared species in the ocean, since they can be aggressive toward humans. Thankfully, in this case, none were.
