Could This Arizona Monument Become the Next National Park?

The U.S. House recently approved a bill to designate Chiricahua National Monument as a national park. Chiricahua National Monument is in Cochise County, Arizona. If approved, it would become Arizona’s fourth national park.

“The U.S. House has approved Republican Congressman Juan Ciscomani’s bill to redesignate the 102-year-old Chiricahua National Monument as a national park,” wrote KJZZ Phoenix in an Instagram post sharing the news. “Ciscomani says the reclassification [. . .] would bring welcome new attention to the region.”

The monument was created to protect the area’s unique rhyolite rock pinnacles, which rise hundreds of feet in the air, in some cases. The area is called a “wonderland of rocks” for good reason.
