Dog Nearly Burns House Down After Chewing Through Heated Glove

You would be amazed at how many articles I write about dogs causing housefires. Oftentimes, it is from things that people carelessly leave out, like laptop chargers. Similarly, in this case, a dog nearly burns a house down after chewing through its owner’s heated glove.

Firefighters in Canada got a call about a house fire, and afterward, they had a warning for all dog owners. It is essential to monitor what your pets are chewing. Furthermore, if you are going to be out of the house, it is imperative that you remove all potential objects that could be dangerous from their reach.

Sounds simple, right– yet you would be amazed how many simple items can prove to be dangerous. Case in point, the heated glove. One owner didn’t think twice when leaving a pair of their heated gloves lying about – it is winter after all. I guarantee you they will never make that mistake again.

The Ottawa Fire Services shared a Facebook post and video about the event. In the caption of the video, they not only described what happened but also shared an important safety reminder. Here is what they wrote.

“‼️Safety reminder:

Damaged lithium-ion batteries can cause fires. Store battery-powered items safely, keep them away from pets and children, and stop using any battery that shows signs of damage, swelling, or overheating.”

The Internet Reacts

In the video, the dog can be seen lounging on the couch as it meticulously chews on an object. After a few moments, that object, which is revealed as the heated glove, begins to smoke. The dog quickly jumps away from the smoking glove, but shortly after that glove catches fire.

Also, PEOPLE shared that after those passing by called 911, “Firefighters arrived just a few minutes after the first calls and found heavy smoke and flames emanating from the residence’s ground floor.”

Luckily, the dog and the homeowner are okay. However, that did not stop the internet from sharing its varied opinions on the matter. Here are some of the comments left underneath the Facebook video.

  • “Thats why crates exist, for the ones who like to chew 30 seconds after you leave the house.”
  • “When you have a dog, you should know not to let anything available for him to chew 🤦🏻‍♀️ it sad that it’s the dog fault for the fire 🔥
  • “Scary😳😳😳😳😳glad everyone and animals are safe 🙏😮‍💨.”
