A Colorado family is feeling fortunate this week after their pet, a Bernese mountain dog named Luke, survived an elk attack in their own backyard. The homeowner knew the elk was there and had been recording it when her dog decided to go outside for a bathroom break. The buck immediately charged the dog, goring him but not causing fatal injuries. The woman screams as the video continues to roll throughout the attack.

CBS Colorado shared clips of the homeowner’s video on YouTube, which shows the elk going after the dog. A representative of Colorado Parks and Wildlife warns pet owners that rut season is a tricky season for male elk, which become particularly aggressive.
