Who knows what’s in fashion for elk nowadays, but for one elk, wearing the remains of a mountain lion seems like the choice of the season. The question is—what happened? “There’s obviously no way to determine precisely how this went down, but we can all see the result,” wrote Nature Is Metal in an Instagram post sharing footage from Liz Jobe. “The mountain lion made a play for the elk and wound up a hood ornament for this magnificent SOB to parade around in. Call it a hunch, but something tells me this year was the most successful breeding season of his budding career.”
There are a ton of potential scenarios that could have led to this moment, and we’ll never know which one really played out. Nevertheless, it’s definitely something you don’t see every day.
