Tammy Ascher is a wildlife videographer who captured video of a river otter running and sliding on top of a frozen lake. Ascher’s footage is stunning, showing the otter in incredible detail even as it moves very fast . . . but what the otter is actually doing in the video is just plain funny.

In the video, the front half of the otter’s body is slumped against the ice as its back legs move comically fast to propel it along. It looks like the otter just can’t bother to use all of its limbs, and it’d much rather just coast along. Unfortunately, it still has to put in the leg work to get across the lake—pun intended.
Ascher calls this move the “river otter run ’n slide.” And, apparently, this otter went across the whole lake like this. Ascher set the video to some silly music and shared it on her Instagram page. The post has well over a million likes.
“This River Otter did this run ’n slide through the slush on top of a frozen lake for over a mile,” she wrote in her Instagram caption. “I [. . .] ran along the edge of the lake, trying to keep it in sight. I ran ahead of it multiple times and hid behind trees so I wouldn’t spook it, then waited for it to pass in front of me. Determined to get to its destination, this River Otter kept its course and ignored me most of the time.”
