Guests to California’s Mt. San Jacinto State Park found themselves stranded on a mountaintop after the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway malfunctioned, and then the tram paused operations for several hours overnight. Some people essentially spent the night there, not able to catch a ride down until 4:30 AM. Fortunately, the guests were not outside in cold, and they had food, drinks, blankets, and kids’ coloring books courtesy of the tram operating company.

Local news reports that the tram malfunctioned around 8 PM last Friday, leaving “hundreds” of people stranded at an elevation of about 7,500 feet. Some guests reportedly became sick due to the elevation. One person noted that there was a lot of unease among the stranded guests due to a lack of concrete information, and there were children sleeping on the floor.
