A tour operator in the Canadian Rockies, which offers guided tours of Nordegg and Abraham Lake, recently posted a video of a stunningly beautiful scene: Ice bubbles frozen in time beneath the surface of a frozen lake.

The tour company, Canadian Rockies Escapes, posted the video in hopes it’d prove to the naysayers that the phenomenon is real and the photos they’ve been posting aren’t fake or edited. It really is that beautiful.

Ice bubbles form as dissolved gases in liquid water escape during the process of freezing, creating pockets of gases trapped in the ice. These ice bubbles often end up stacked in columns, as shown in the video.
