Whales are massive and majestic creatures. When compared to the size of the ocean, they don’t seem to huge. If you go on a whale watching tour and see one off in the distance you appreciate its beauty more than its size. However, when you are up close and personal with one, you truly get a sense for how humongous these animals are. Footage Shows Massive Humpback Whale Trapped In California Harbor
An account by the name sailoceans shared the footage of the encounter on Instagram. Although the video footage looks stunning and majestic, the whale did not feel that way. More likely than not, this poor creature was terrified and in distress. The massive humpback whale and wandered into the California harbor and had gotten itself trapped, with no clue how to get out.
In the video, you can see the animal desperately swimming circles around the harbor, trying to look for a way out of its enclosed space. Bystanders that were standing too close got splashed by one of the waves created from a massive flick of its tail. Although the footage doesn’t show it, this whale was eventually lured to freedom. The caption of the video shared that wildlife officials used “an underwater broadcast whale calls” to assist the animal escape.
Where You Can Usually Find These Stunning Creatures
Naturally, seeing a humpback whale trapped in a California harbor is not common. These animals are typically found out in the deep ocean. AZ Animals shares that they can be found in the Atlantic, Pacific, Indian, Southern, and Arctic ocean, “migrating between colder feeding grounds and warmer breeding grounds.” Yet the majority of their time, regardless of which ocean it is in, is spent in deep oceanic waters.
Perhaps this is why so many people were enthralled with the sight of the stunning whale. Although there were mixed reactions to it. Some people appeared fearful of the massive creature in the California harbor, while others were in awe. Here are some of the comments left under the Instagram video.
