Mama Bear Injures Woman Walking Dog in Monrovia, California

A mama bear with cubs nearby took a swipe at a woman who was walking her dog in Monrovia, California. Black bear attacks on humans are very rare, and now wildlife officials might euthanize the animal.

Local CBS LA News reports that black bears are common in the neighborhood. But a black bear taking a swipe at a passerby? Not so common. Thankfully, both the woman and her dog are ok. However, CBS LA reports that if the captured bear’s DNA matches the DNA from the injured woman’s scrape, officials will likely euthanize the bear.

Interestingly, while another local news station, KTLA 5 was reporting the story on live TV, another black bear wandered around in the background.
