Man Gets Banned From Yellowstone for Making This Common Mistake

A 62-year-old man from Colorado Springs, Colorado went off trail last month with his family in Yellowstone National Park, and he got banned. Joseph Aita told local KTTV 11 News that he initially left the path because the two young children he was with ran ahead, and he and another adult followed them. He says he didn’t see any signs warning visitors to stay on the trail and there was no boardwalk or fence.

The spot where the group went off exploring is a protected thermal area of Canary Spring in Mammoth Hot Springs, and leaving the trail is not allowed. Clearly, authorities also strictly enforce the rule. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, District of Wyoming, Aita received a fine of $3,000, five years of probation, and a five-year ban from Yellowstone. Some news outlets are reporting that Aita also got a week of jail time.
