Man Stuck Living With a Bear Under His Home Wants to Sue

Remember the 500-plus-pound black bear that decided to squat in a homeowner’s crawlspace in Altadena, California? Well, it’s still there. And the homeowner, Ken Johnson, is mad. Who wouldn’t be? He can hear the massive animal wreaking havoc beneath him, ensuring he’s never NOT thinking about the fact that there’s a bear living beneath him. And, perhaps even worse, Johnson says he’s been living without hot water since the bear damaged a pipe in the crawlspace, forcing him to turn off his gas line.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) tried to help the homeowner capture the bear, but the agency’s efforts so far haven’t worked. In fact, local KTLA 5 News reports that the trap biologists set ended up catching a different bear.

In a recent interview with KTLA, Johnson says he’s considering legal action against CDFW for not doing enough to get the bear out. However, perhaps in response to the news coverage, CDFW is saying they’re still providing aid, and they still plan to get the bear out.

Unfortunately, in the meantime, the bear is causing significant damage to Johnson’s home—and the whole thing is clearly stressing him out. There’s GoFundMe to help him pay for damages, but first, he’s got to get that bear out.
