When I think of an emotional support dog, something specific comes to my mind. It is usually a tame, well-mannered dog that helps people deal with unwanted feelings. Whether the animal is helping someone combat grief or anxiety, the emotional support dog is there for assistance. However, Chicken is a different sort of emotional support dog. Chicken: The Support Dog With A Surprising Twist
The Dodo shared the heartwarming story of Alyssa and her dog Chicken. Chicken is a massive dog that seems to have the most gentle soul. On her Instagram page, Alyssa writes the following about her beloved dog. “Emotional support dog for shelter puppies @mspca.angell best kitten foster mom, rabbit enthusiast and boy’s best friend❤️.”
That’s right, folks, Chicken isn’t an emotional support dog for Alyssa or her son. Instead, she is a support dog for foster puppies, kittens, and a whole host of other adorable animals. The Dodo shared an adorable video compilation of some of the animals that Chicken has helped throughout the years.
In the video, Alyssa shared that the family adopted Chicken back in 2022. Although she is an incredible emotional support animal now, that was never Alyssa’s intention when she bought her.
How Chicken Became The Best Emotional Support Dog
Alyssa shared that when she bought Chicken, it was never her intent to make her into an emotional support dog. However, Alyssa and her family were constantly fostering other dogs. “Over the years, I’ve fostered a lot of animals,” she admitted in the video. “Because I work at a shelter, there are often animals who just need a place to go.”
Alyssa and her family give them that place, and Chicken watches over them. Ironically, Alyssa shared that Chicken tends to think the foster puppies are too small. Tiny kittens, however, seem to be just the right size for Chicken. “Tiny kittens,” Alyssa shared, “She [meaning Chicken] just wants to watch them.” Chicken is so gentle with the little baby kittens, and it is clear that they feel completely safe with her.
The same can be said for the plethora of rabbits that Chicken watches over. No matter the size and no matter the creature, Chicken is there to watch over and protect them. “It is never not adorable,” Alyssa shared, “to see Chicken with a teeny-tiny baby animal.” We couldn’t agree more.
