A hiker in Yosemite National Park got a pleasant surprise when a “rock puppy” suddenly approached him on the Mist Trail, which gets its name from all the mist that sprays onto the trail from nearby Vernal Fall. The “rock puppy” was a bobcat and, therefore, more like a rock kitty than a rock puppy. Reddit user wakeupandlive93 shared several photos of the bobcat on the r/Yosemite Reddit thread, and many people chimed in to say what a lucky sighting it was.

“Rock puppy walked right up to us then passed on the mist trail,” wakeupandlive93 wrote in the Reddit post. The animal didn’t seem too concerned the hikers were there as it emerged, its fur a perfect camouflage in the rocky terrain, and then walked past them.
Bobcats are elusive animals that not many people will ever have the chance to see in the wild. They’re not generally a threat to humans, but they can be aggressive if they feel threatened, so if you do see one, be sure to give it space.
