A married couple attending the Burning Man Festival in the Nevada desert unexpectedly delivered their baby there, and they didn’t even know they were expecting. A woman named Kayla started to feel unwell on Wednesday morning while camping in her RV parked on the playa. When Kayla’s discomfort intensified, her husband Kasey started gathering other festival-goers who could potentially help her.

Though Burning Man is at its heart an art festival, there were a surprising number of medical professionals there. Several people stepped in to help Kayla as she gave birth to a baby she didn’t know she was pregnant with for the past eight months.

Turns out, Kayla had a “cryptic pregnancy”—a term for when women are pregnant and don’t know it until labor begins. She delivered her baby girl in the RV with the help of strangers, and now she and her family are together at a hospital in Reno.
Kayla and Kasey named their surprise baby girl Aurora, and their families have set up a GoFundMe to help them fund their very unexpected medical expenses.
