Trail Cam Spots Rare Ocelot in Southern Arizona

A trail-cam enthusiast captured special footage of a rare ocelot in southern Arizona—a previously unknown individual ocelot. Jason Miller recently went to check his trail cameras set up in remote areas of the desert around Vail, Arizona, and he was thrilled to see he’d captured footage of coatis, mountain lions, black bears, and many more species. But he was extra delighted to see footage of an ocelot, especially when he realized it wasn’t the ocelot known to inhabit the area; it was a “new” ocelot.

Local KGUN 9 News reports that Arizona Game and Fish has also confirmed that Miller’s trail-cam ocelot is one that no one has spotted before. “It’s a remarkable moment for the endangered species, with less than 100 wild ocelots in the US,” wrote KGUN News.
