The winning snake was a California kingsnake, a non-venomous species known for preying on other snakes, including other kingsnakes. The losing snake? A venomous rattlesnake.

“While running with friends we stumbled upon a beautiful California King Snake. Always a treat to see,” wrote Gunnar in his Instagram post sharing the photos. “However, we immediately realized there was another snake in its mouth! As we took a closer look we saw it was devouring a Rattle Snake. Something you don’t get to see often.”
