Video Clip: Lone Stray Dog Fights off Coyote Pack for 45 Minutes

A security camera recently caught a young dog in the fight of its life. In the footage, the stray dog—a Labrador/German Shepherd mix—fights off at least five coyotes outside a home in Orange County, California. The battle raged for about 45 minutes before the coyotes relented and moved on.

KTLA 5 News says the homeowner, Steve Shatynski, didn’t even realize what was happening outside at first, because the dog wasn’t barking and it was early in the morning. After surviving the attack, KTLA 5 reports that the stray dog wandered the neighborhood for a couple of days. Shatynski shared his video on the Nextdoor app in hopes someone in his area would be able to identify the dog.

No one was able to identify the dog, but don’t worry, this brave pup’s story has a happy ending. OC Animal Care took the one-year-old dog, now named Duke, into custody and was able to adopt him out to a loving owner.
