Wait for It . . . Bubble-Netting Whale Makes an Entrance

If you love a good wildlife moment, a video showing a humpback whale making a bubble net and then lunge feeding at the surface is definitely worth the wait. The footage from artist Ray Troll, and he says he witnessed this magical moment in Ketchikan, Alaska.

Bubble-net feeding refers to a hunting strategy in which baleen whales (like humpbacks) dive deep below a school of fish and then use bubbles blown from their blowholes to trap fish closer to the surface. Then, the whale swims toward the surface and gulps up the trapped fish.

That’s exactly what the humpback in the video is doing, but it takes a second. The video may be longer than your traditional social-media video, but it shows the hunting strategy well.
