On the morning of December 20, the Yellowstone Volcano Observatory webcam caught a “dirty eruption” at the park’s Black Diamond Pool at Biscuit Basin. A “dirty” eruption is one that includes a bunch of mud, rocks, and other debris. It’s pretty interesting to see.

“This morning [. . .] we got a nice clear view of one of these dirty eruptions under bright blue skies with the surroundings covered in snow (ah, winter in Yellowstone!),” wrote USGS Volcanoes in a Facebook post sharing the video. “A great example of the style of activity that has been occurring at Black Diamond Pool over the past 19 months!”
