A Phoenix, Arizona hiker named Rob DeStasio gave a thirsty squirrel some water from his Osprey hydration backpack, and the video has gone viral. The footage shows the squirrel standing up on its hind legs and eagerly lapping up water as DeStasio squeezes the bite valve, releasing water for the cute creature.

The sweet interaction has captured many people’s hearts. Some people in the comments section point out that at one point, DeStasio quietly apologizes to the squirrel for getting water on its face instead of its mouth, noting how gentle and caring he seems to be.
As to whether humans should be providing water for wild animals, the advice is mixed. Feeding wild animals, however, is a definite no.
