A young man spotted a struggling dog in a freezing-cold pond behind his home in Chesapeake, Virginia, and he jumped into action. 18-year-old Hugh Pinneo grabbed a kayak and went into the pond, paddling to the pup and pulling it aboard. Turns out, it was his neighbor’s dog.

“My instinct kicked in, and I was like, ‘I’ve got to go save that dog,’” Pinneo told The Washington Post. [. . .] “My mom said the owner was very thankful. I was glad I was able to save the dog.”
