Crikey! It’s Steve Irwin Day and You Can Celebrate By Protecting Wildlife

Every year on November 15, multiple organizations celebrate one of the biggest names in wildlife, Steve Irwin. The Australian conservationist brought wildlife into homes worldwide with his TV shows and inspired millions to care about animals. Today, we celebrate Steve Irwin Day.

“Steve Irwin Day represents the many things Steve was passionate about: family, fun and wildlife conservation,” says the Wildlife Warriors organization. The group was initially called the Steve Irwin Conservation Foundation. “It’s a day where people around the world join together to raise money for Wildlife Warriors to help continue Steve’s conservation work and the preservation of wildlife and wild places.”

Irwin and his wife, Terri, founded the organization in 2002. Their work continues to this day with conservation efforts all over the world, including in the U.S. The organization uses the holiday in Irwin’s name to raise awareness.

Along with non-profit efforts, the Australia Zoo hosts various events each year. Visitors enjoy special vendors, food, and other hands-on events. Plus, the zoo is asking guests to wear khaki replicating Irwin’s famous attire for an additional 10% off.

Steve Irwin is best known for his show The Crocodile Hunter. However, he had numerous other programs and spinoffs. He also appeared in several movies, including cameos in Dr. Dolittle 2 and Happy Feet. Irwin lost his life while filming one of his shows in 2006. Since then, his family has continued his legacy at the zoo, and with other efforts.

So, be sure to celebrate Irwin today, and use this quote to get you motivated:

“Whatever you want to do in this world, it is achievable. The most important thing that I’ve found is that you have to start. You have to turn off the computer and get out of the house. We are sitting in front of screens and living in this digital world, but this is the real world out here.”

Celebrate Steve Irwin Day by getting out into the water with waders.
