A farmer in northern China has an increased respect for Siberian tigers after one rammed into the iron gate separating him from the tiger and knocked it clean off its track. Surveillance footage caught the terrifying moment on video, along with what many consider to be questionable behavior of the farmer beforehand.

In the viral video, which ABC News shared to Instagram, a massive wild tiger rams head first into the gate that separates a farmer from the animal. Then, the video shows what happened shortly before the moment of truth. The farmer opens the gate and stands outside of it as a tiger growls off screen. Then, the growling intensifies, so the farmer casually (too casually??) walks back inside and shuts the gate at a nail-bitingly slow speed.
Next thing you know, the tiger’s ramming the gate, and, finally, the farmer runs.
