Rescuers Saving Thru-Hiker Stumble Upon Second Injured Hiker

In a plot twist rescuers in New Hampshire didn’t see coming, the crew ended up rescuing not just one injured thru-hiker but two injured thru-hikers on the Appalachian Trail on Monday. One of the hikers just happened to be in the rescuers’ path to the first person.

A press release from the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department explains how on Monday, a hiker slipped and fell on the Kinsman Ridge Trail near the summit of North Kinsman. Conservation officers hiked to that person’s location, treated his non-life-threatening injuries, and then volunteers helped carry him to a waiting ambulance.

“During the rescue operation, [officers found] another Appalachian Trail through hiker . . . with a serious but non-life-threatening injury,” wrote the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department in its press release.

Pemi Valley Search and Rescue Team members similarly assisted the second injured thru-hiker down the trail. Then, ambulances took both hikers to Littleton Regional Hospital for further treatment.

“New Hampshire Fish and Game urges hikers to be prepared and to use caution while hiking,” the press release adds. “Packing the 10 Essentials, even on a day hike, is imperative.”
