A mountain-lion encounter on Dreaded Hill near Lake Forest in southern California is going viral. Two mountain bikers were heading up the trail when, suddenly, they came face to face with a cougar. The animal came toward them as they slowly backed away, using their bikes as a shield. One of the mountain bikers admits to the other that he doesn’t know exactly what to do as the other starts praying aloud, asking for divine protection.

“Noooo! Go away, kitty! Go away!” shouts the female mountain biker at the start of the video. The mountain lion trots after the pair as they walk backwards down the hill.
In the end, the curious cougar does not attack, and, with their prayers answered, the mountain bikers breathed a sigh of relief.
While hiking, mountain biking, trail running, or camping in mountain-lion country, it’s best to carry bear spray, which is also effective against cougars. If you come across one, stand your ground (don’t run or turn your back), make noise, and throw rocks in the direction of the mountain lion to scare it away.
