Surf Cam Captures the Moment a Shark Bites Wing Foiler’s Board

A wing foiler is lucky to be alive after a shark bit a large chunk out of his board and briefly dragged him underwater. Andy McDonald was out on the water, enjoying a wing-foiling session, when, suddenly, a white shark rammed him from below. He described the impact as feeling like a “freight train” had run into him. The impact flew him up into the air before he came crashing back down into the ocean.

Once in the water with the apex predator, the 61 year old started punching the shark repeatedly. It dove, briefly pulling him underwater before disappearing. McDonald was able to climb onto his equipment and call for help. Thankfully, the shark didn’t come back.

The incident occurred Monday at the Margaret River Bombie break near Prevelly in Western Australia, and a surf cam caught the whole thing on video. Thankfully, McDonald is all in one piece, but his board is missing a big chunk.
