Talk about holding a cool title! As a pet owner myself, I know that my biggest wish is to have more time with my fur babies. 10-15 short years never seem like enough. I suppose Flossie the cat agrees, as she is still going strong at 30 years old. This impressive feline just celebrated another birthday and now holds the title of the oldest living cat.

Flossie The Cat Is The Oldest Living Cat

Flossie had a somewhat turbulent beginning to life. The NY Post shares that after she was born, on Dec 29, 1995, “the British domestic shorthair tortoiseshell cat lived in a feral colony in Merseyside, England.” That is, until she was rescued as a kitten by a kind-hearted hospital worker.
Then, after many years in a loving home, poor Flossie ended up in a UK-based charity after her owner passed away. That is where Vicki Green found her. “I always wanted to give older cats a comfortable later life,” she shared with the outlet. So when Cats Protection matched her with the mature feline, she couldn’t say no.
When Flossie came into Green’s home, it was apparent that she was later on in years. The poor old girl was deaf and had poor vision, but that didn’t stop Green from falling head over heels with her. “I knew from the start that Flossie was a special cat,” she gushed. “But I didn’t imagine I’d share my home with a world-record holder.”
Indeed, Flossie is a world record holder because she has won the award of oldest living cat not once, but twice.
What Is Flossie’s Secret?
That’s right, Flossie is no newcomer to the world of winning world records. In fact, back in 2022, she attained the world record of the oldest living cat when she reached the age of 26 years and 316 days. To put it into perspective, that is like a human reaching 120 years of age.
Now, four years later, Flossie gets an updated record. The oldest living cat is now 30 years old, truly an incredible feat. So what is Flossie’s secret to longevity? Honestly, no one truly knows! However, Cats Protection did share some of Flossie’s “health” tips that they think helped.
They shared that “she maintained a consistent daily regimen that included gentle play, regular meals, and prolonged sleep.” Perhaps it is this secret regimen, along with her nine lives, that keeps this old girl still playing and showing affection like a kitten. May we all learn a thing or two from Flossie, the oldest living cat.
