Mario Alexander Flores recently captured footage of two antelope jackrabbits having an intense boxing match in southern Arizona. Or, perhaps, it’d be better to call it a “slapping” match.

“Antelope jackrabbits primarily fight over mates and territory during their extended breeding season. Because males (bucks) are polygynous and mate with multiple females, they compete aggressively to establish dominance and secure breeding rights,” wrote Flores in his Instagram post sharing the video. “[. . .] Unlike other species that mostly kick, male antelope jackrabbits famously stand on their hind feet and ‘box’. They repeatedly and rapidly strike each other with their forelimbs.”

“Sounds like popcorn in the microwave,” jokes one person in the video’s comments section.
“My arms are tired just from watching this,” wrote another.
