A black bear attempted to cross a raging river, and bystanders were worried it would drown. Footage from Mike Stewart, a fire chief in Washington, California, back in 2023 showed the tense couple of minutes the bear was swept down river by fast-moving water in the South Yuba River.

KCRA3 News shared the video on social media. Stewart told KCRA3 that a human likely would not have survived this attempted crossing. Thankfully, the bear did. Although you don’t see it reach land in the video, Stewart said the bear eventually did.
