“SFPD’s Marine Unit has been using boat-mounted sonar to locate the vessel since it sank on Tuesday. The Marine Unit is now using a remotely operated vehicle to assess the wreckage,” wrote SFPU in a Facebook post. “The SFPD is working diligently with partner agencies and evaluating recovery options to determine whether it is safe and feasible to recover the wreckage of the Volare.”

The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon. SFPD says it responded to a call of a vessel in distress with multiple individuals aboard about 600 feet west of Alcatraz. Crews were able to rescue 16 people from the water. One person and one dog were pronounced dead on the scene.

On Thursday, crews recovered one body from the water, and two other people are still missing.
