Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) is looking into yet another incident involving a bear searching for human food and injuring a human in the process. This time, the victim was an elderly woman living in Estes Park. CPW says an adult black bear entered the woman’s home on Thursday morning at about 4:30 AM, waking her up and then attacking her.

“The homeowner, a woman in her 80s, reported to CPW officers she awoke to the bear in the kitchen on the second floor,” CPW’s press release reads. “The bear charged the woman, scratched her across the stomach and knocked her to the ground, according to the victim. She told officers the bear then left the house through the first floor window.”
This is just one in a string of bear attacks in Colorado this month. During the period from August 18-22, CPW reported four separate bear attacks. In fact, CPW says it’s an “unprecedented bear conflict year, largely due to drought conditions depleting natural food sources for bears.”
