A woman was walking with her two dogs on a Park City, Utah, trail, when a moose charged her six times. According to local news anchor, Jim Spiewak, Deborah Bellinghieri initially saw the moose and her calf sitting on the trail, but then adult moose stood up and charged.

“A Park City hike turned terrifying when a woman and her 4-year-old Goldendoodle, Murphee, encountered a moose and her calf on Rob’s Trail,” wrote Spiewak in a Facebook post sharing details about the incident. “According to the family, Deborah Bellinghieri stopped when she saw the two moose sitting in the trail, but the mother got up and charged. Deborah suffered multiple broken ribs, a punctured lung, several lacerations and a deep thigh wound that required reconstruction and roughly 30 stitches. Then, the family says, the moose charged again, charging six times in total. Murphee stayed with Deborah and went toward the moose during the encounter, and severely broke his front leg. Murphee underwent emergency surgery that required a plate and seven screws. A second dog, Charlee, escaped without injury.”
According to Bellinghieri’s husband, Joe, the dogs were on a leash before and during the attack. Other hikers helped Bellinghieri get off the trail so she could be transported to the hospital. A Good Samaritan also helped her contact Joe, who was not with her at the time.
The family has set up a GoFundMe for their dog’s medical bills.
