Ben Hildred is Climbing 1 Million Feet in 100 Days on a Mountain Bike

Climbing a million feet in 100 days is like biking up the height of Mount Everest every 2.85 days, and then continuing to do that about 35 times in a row over the course of 100 consecutive days. (As if doing one “Everest” on a mountain bike isn’t hard enough?) This bonkers feat is exactly what mountain biker Ben Hildred has set out to do. He started his quest for 1 million feet in 100 days on January 1, and, if all goes well, he’ll keep going until April 10.

Hildred isn’t new to creating a good challenge for himself on his mountain bike. In the past, he’s done a “Double Everest,” climbing the height of two Everests on his mountain bike just for fun, and he’s even done 1 million feet before . . . but last time he did it in 200 days.

As he goes, Hildred is posting updates from his ride in New Zealand in the form of Instagram stories, and he’s also using his Strava to keep track of his elevation gains. As nutty as this quest sounds, we’re rooting for Hildred, and we love his dedication to the sport of mountain biking!
