Bison Herd vs. Biker Club in Yellowstone National Park (Video)

Cindy Bartlett posted photos and videos to a Sturgis Motorcycle Rally Facebook group last month showing a group of bikers making their way through a herd of bison on the road at Yellowstone National Park. Bartlett’s commentary is pretty funny, and she’s clearly not comfortable with the situation.

“We have never seen anything like this!” she wrote in her Facebook post to the Sturgis, South Dakota group’s page.

In the video, Bartlett is riding on the back of a motorcycle, and there’s one other biker in front of them. It’s not clear how many bikers are in the group, but at times you can hear several motorcycles as they slowly make their way down the road. Bison have crowded the roadway, stopping all traffic moving in both directions.

“We’re now in the middle of this mess. We’re surrounded,” Bartlett says as she shows views both ahead and behind her. No matter where you look, there are bison.

“Super sketchy!” she says at another point, along with “I don’t like this.”

Thankfully, the bison remain calm throughout the ordeal and don’t charge at any vehicles or people. The people on motorcycles and vehicles, for the most part, seem to wait patiently for the bison to get off the road (although one biker who is heading up the group gets a little pushy at times).

NPS Shares Hilarious ‘Helpful Tips’ for Friday the 13th

  1. Enough to know Better

Stupid ass’s!!! Why would you follow them with your stupid ass loud bike!? It’s called nature…..let them be!!! You’re in their territory!!! Why Yellowstone allows stupid bikers in I’ll never understand!!! “Cowboy Mike”?!?! More like “Stupid Mike and his equally stupid friends!!!”

    1. Idiots ! Anyone riding through the park should expect a bison traffic jam and wait it out patiently .
They think it’s funny to harass the bison with their bikes. Wish the bison had charged them.

    2. I totally agree. They are obnoxious and noisy. It is about nature and being quiet. I just got back from there. The park should say no motorcycle traffic up in the back areas. Those bison could have stampeded them. Or maybe they did!😂

    3. Exactly! The most obnoxious thing I’ve seen in a while, riding out in the wilderness, trying to push themselves through a herd of bison, calling THEM “A MESS”???
I hope she meant that them forcing their way into the middle of them was, “the mess”.
Someone who works in that park, should have just shut down that road, until that herd had crossed, since those people obviously don’t have the brain capacity to wait it out , or back track to another road.

    1. Greg Rogers

Absolutely! Revving your ridiculously loud Harley is
Always obnoxious, but this is harassing wild animals.
BTW, no one thinks you’re cool when you rev your motorcycle, whether a Harley or a crotch rocket.

      1. If we’ve got to explain what it’s like to rev a Harley then you’ll never understand. And bikes have just as much right on the road as you do. And I’ve been through Glacier on a Harley and it’s beautiful. I guess it’s people like you we have to watch out for.

  3. You know, these folks are extremely lucky to not have been trampled by these bison. After living in Montana, you learn to respect and understand that that these animals can kill you. Lucky for them that no Rangers saw them because they would have been arrested. This is just one of the many reasons, Montanans and Wyomingans don’t need tourists destroying what we have taken so long and care to preserve.

    1. I agree that the bikers were idiots and they should be arrested or let the herd take care of them. But what do you expect from bikers. But people from Wyoming and Montana are no better. They just come to Colorado and destroy our state and then had back home.

  4. Jerry Eisch

It’s called harassment of wildlife. Just cause you ride a bike doesn’t give you the rite. Your probably a bull to other people as well as wildlife

    1. Patrick Keith

My navy reunion went through Yellowstone and we encountered the same thing we were surrounded by dozens of Buffalo. The best thing these people could’ve done was shut down their motorcycles and let the Buffalo Grays through their own territory. I agree with you wholeheartedly idiots like this give motorcycle riders a bad name.

  5. From the clip I saw they are lucky there are no calves around. If so the mamas may have not been happy with the bikers. The bulls also may have went into protection mode.

  6. George Eric Kitchens

Sorry asses they should be fined or arrested and you can give them my email address if you don’t want to deal with our majestic (wildlife) stay your Sorry ass home

  7. No harm no foul on either side. The bikers didn’t rev their engines or try to harness them in any way. The bison didn’t charge or harass the bikers. So again no harm no foul

    1. They were still way too close and some of them were revving their engines. That’s appalling you’re in their territory

    2. Gail Harper - Bozeman

I think you need to turn up your volume as the leader is constantly revving his engine. It’s rut season and those big bulls were watching these bikers. I could vision the domino effect of the lead biker being hit and the ones following falling down in unison.

  8. Not the best and brightest among bikers.
Millions already know and any sense one might have….you don’t do what some of these motor sickle drivers are doing!
Luck. Just luck that the herd didn’t start a stampede or feel threatened….would have reverted back to default mode…

  9. A true lack of respect for the heard. They have the right away always, a better video would have been . What not to do at a heard crossing 😂 .

    1. The word is”herd”, not “heard”. Bikers were fortunate, that herd could easily destroy that group of bikes and those riding them. There are thousands of acres in Yellowstone, staff cannot be everywhere.

  10. If you want to see wildlife on it’s terms, go to Yellowstone. Don’t rush it with your car or motorcycle or get out of your vehicle to pet it! Don’t be stupid. Take another route! If you wanna play with an animal, adopt a pet from a shelter and love it. Respect all animals!!

  11. Rich freeman

How many of you viewers were hoping the bison would start stomping the bikers? I was disappointed.

  12. John Coffey

Why is a bunch of Buffalo called a heard yet a bunch of motorcycles called a gang and not a group?

  13. Those idiots give a bad name to bikers like me! That’s BS riding up into that herd to try to get a reaction from the Bison. They should’ve just pulled over and shut off their bikes and wait it out. And then, after the herd cleared, they frickin hauled ass down the road. Scumbags!

  14. Not sure what else the bikers could have done with the Bison both in front and behind. Mike was unnecessarily close though. As for the noise, well that is default Harley, nothing to do about that.

  15. Brandon Gonzo

I have a feeling there are Rangers cringing at this and who would ha e put a stop to the pushing of the Heard….. if cars had done that it would have been Considered harassment… Bison are funny, their like people if you meet the right personality of bison, You are allowed to push. If you meet the wrong personality of bison, he gores your bike, your driver of the bike and the passenger. Then tromps them to death.

Then they go down in infamy as number 43 and 44 bison gores for the year 2024…

Personally I think that would have made a much more exciting video !!!

  17. Biker Gang come on it’s just 4 bikes not like there were 40 of them sheesh!!! And yes the one up front was a little bit too close to the Bison Gang , luckily they had their mindset on going somewhere with their other Bison Gang members hahaha 😆

  18. The bikers are extremely irresponsible they should of pulled over and waited. Not ride their bike slowly behind them to push them. And yes, they revved their engines at one point. Let’s be real here the bikers were Impatient. Iinnii (Buffalo in blackfeet) have the right of way. Honestly I’m disappointed that the iinnii didn’t teach them a lesson I guess the ancestors gave them a free pass.
