Camping at Buck’s Pocket State Park

Buck’s Pocket State Park has a legend behind it that it was the place where defeated public officials went to hide after an unsuccessful election. It is a good place to go and rest, because it is secluded and peaceful.

buck's pocket state parkThe camping accommodations at Buck’s Pocket State Park host an Improved Campground as well as a Primitive Camping Area. At the Improved Campground, you will find thirty-six campsites with water and electricity. Four of them have sewage for a more convenient camping trip. A nightly rate for a campsite with all the amenities of water, electricity, and sewage is twenty-two dollars.

Amenities at Buck’s Pocket State Park

There are grills, shelters, laundry facilities, comfort station, a playground, and over twenty miles of hiking trails. You can also rent campers for sixty dollars a night with stoves, sinks, a microwave, coffee maker and refrigerator. Whether you are looking to rough it, or camp a little more modern, Buck’s Pocket can accommodate both.

Things to Do at Buck’s Pocket State Park

Buck’s Pocket has a wealth of wildlife for you to see during your hikes. There are many things to do including fishing, hiking, going on a picnic, and travel to the Point Rock Scenic Overlook. The Park is a two hundred acre park in Northeast Alabama and is secluded in the Appalachian Mountains close to Lake Guntersville. You can also go biking, horseback riding, and even geocaching.
If you are looking for somewhere to dine, the Cheaha State Lodge Restaurant and the DeSoto Park Restaurant are two excellent choices. Go swimming in one of the many swimming holes. You can take a ride in a personal or rented watercraft, or go water skiing. There are several places to fish, and golf courses. No matter which Alabama Park you stay at you will find a vast amount of activities, but Buck’s Pocket State Park offers you some of the best camping sites and amenities.
