The Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park was established in 1929. The park is named after the explorer Jedediah Stong Smith who was actually the first white man to explore northern California. The discovery of gold is what originally drew so many people to this portion of California.

Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park has over 100 different campsites for their guests to choose from. Very few of the campsites are available on a first come, first serve basis. It is highly recommended that guests call ahead and make reservations. Some of the campsites do close during the winter season; however, there are some sites open all year round.
